CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS

OF

GOPHER  STATE TREASURE  HUNTERS

 

ARTICLE I                                              NAME OF ORGANIZATION

The name of the club will be Gopher State Treasure Hunters.

ARTICLE II                                            MEMBERSHIP

Membership applications will be accepted from any person interested in treasure hunting, providing they will abide by the code of ethics adopted by the executive committee.

ARTICLE III                                           PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization will be to further the enjoyment of using metal detectors and the collecting of relics, old bottles, old coins, Indian relics, and other items of yesteryear; to promote the exchange of information; to provide recreational activity and companion­ship for its members; and to halt the present trend toward adverse or restricting legislation affecting the use of metal detectors.

ARTICLE IV                                           OFFICERS

The officers of this organization will be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer until the club has grown so as to warrant other officers.

ARTICLE V                                             EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The above-named officers shall comprise the executive committee. This committee shall direct and control the operation and activities of this club.

ARTICLE VI                                           NOMINATING COMMITTEE, ELECTION AND TERMS OF OFFICERS

A.     The nominating committee shall be two (2) members who volunteer or are selected at the July meeting. A proposed slate of officers will be published in the September newsletter and presented at the meeting.

B.     Election will be held in September. The new officers will take office in October. If there is just one nominee for an office, an election by hand vote may be held. If there are two or more nominees for an office, election will be by closed ballot. The entire adult membership attending the meeting on election night shall vote. More than one member of a family may run for office.

C.     Officers will serve for a period of twelve (12) months and until their successors have been installed.

ARTICLE VII                                          DUTIES OF OFFICERS

The President - shall preside over all meetings of the club and the executive committee, approve checks made out by the treasurer, approve and sign other papers requiring a signature.

The Vice-President - will take over the operation of the club in the absence of the president. He/she will arrange the programs for the monthly meetings as required.

The Secretary - shall maintain a complete record of the activities of the club and shall carry on all communications for the club. He/she shall maintain a membership roster.

The Treasurer - will handle all financial matters of the club. He/she will keep appropriate records of all funds and expenditures. He/she will keep a bank account in the name of the club, checks on which may be drawn on over his/her signature or that of the president. He/she shall make monthly reports to the club,

ARTICLE VIII                                         STANDING COMMITTEES

standing committees will be appointed by the president to run the activities of the club.

ARTICLE IX                                           AMENDMENTS

This constitution may be amended as follows: An amendment may be presented by any club member at any regular meeting, provided that he/she has notified the president of the intention at least thirty (30) days in advance of the meeting. The amendment must be prepared in writing. The secretary will then prepare copies of the proposed amendment for distribution at the next meeting. A vote of two-thirds of the members present and voting will be required for adoption. By-laws may be pro­posed in the same manner as above; a two-thirds vote will also be re­quired for passage.

History of Our Club

Gopher State Treasure Hunters was established in 1976 to promote and assist metal detectorists in the great hobby of metal detecting/treasure hunting. And to provide a venue for area metal detectorists to meet, socialize and enjoy the hobby with other treasure hunters.
